Enterprise Zone
A state designated Enterprise Zone is an area targeted for economic revitalization.
Businesses that create new jobs within a zone are eligible for certain sales tax
credits and refunds, as well as state corporate income tax credits. The Enterprise
Zone in Fort Myers is ten square miles in central and east Fort Myers, concentrated
in the areas of Palm Beach Boulevard, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and
U.S. 41. Examples of benefits include: job credits for eligible companies that hire
Enterprise Zone residents and are applicable to either corporate income or state
sales taxes; and state sales tax refunds on business equipment, building materials,
and utility tax exemptions (municipal utility and state sales tax) are also available.

When can I apply?
The program became effective January 1, 2006, and is effective for 10 years from
that date. Most of the tax savings require that part-time or full-time, permanent
employees be employed for at least three calendar months before the business is
eligible to receive benefits. Building materials sales tax refunds must be filed
within six months of invoice.
